Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Selkirk Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:39 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:50 a.m.

Crews searched the house and no occupants were located. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Phil Chris Way

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:29 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-storey, single family home in the 100 block of Phil Chris Way.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 7:50 p.m.

All occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. Paramedics transported on patient to hospital in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Austin Street North

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:57 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey, multi-family residence in the 200 block of Austin Street North.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:12 a.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire in high-rise on Edmonton Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:10 p.m. on May 7, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in an 18-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Edmonton Street. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene due to the potential for a high number of occupants in the building.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke in the building and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 11:41 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Bannerman Avenue, Le Maire Street, and Houde Drive

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:07 p.m. on May 6, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey single family home in the 600 block of Bannerman Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 8:34 p.m.

All occupants of the home self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service perform water rescue on Red River

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:36 p.m. on May 6, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of an individual in the Red River who was unable to get to shore due to swiftly moving water. The 911 caller indicated the individual was last seen in the river near Annabella Street.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Provencher Boulevard and Stella Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:43 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey commercial building in the 100 block of Provencher Boulevard. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 4:28 a.m. The building suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Elgin Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:18 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 400 block of Elgin Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 7:10 p.m. The house suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.

Crews searched the house and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Annual water meter reading program cancelled

Winnipeg, MB – Due to concerns about COVID-19, the City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department’s annual water meter reading program has been cancelled for 2020.

For the safety of our customers, water meter readers will not be visiting homes this summer. Residents will receive a card in the mail explaining how to submit their meter reading, either online using MyUtility or by phone.
