Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Bannerman Avenue, Le Maire Street, and Houde Drive

Released: May 7, 2020 at 4:44 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:07 p.m. on May 6, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey single family home in the 600 block of Bannerman Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 8:34 p.m.

All occupants of the home self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental due to combustibles being stored too close to the hot water tank. Residents are reminded to always keep combustibles away from heat sources.

WFPS also responded to two incidents in the St. Norbert area yesterday evening. At 7:02 p.m., crews responded to reports of smoke in a multi-family complex in the 200 block of Le Maire Street. Investigating crews opened up walls and found smouldering embers which were quickly extinguished. The cause was determined to be accidental due to faulty wiring.

At 10:35 p.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey duplex in the 200 block of Houde Drive. Upon arrival on scene, crews launched an offensive attack, and declared the fire under control at 11:06 p.m.

All occupants of the structure safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the incident is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.
