Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Provencher Boulevard and Stella Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:43 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey commercial building in the 100 block of Provencher Boulevard. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 4:28 a.m. The building suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.

Crews searched the structure and no occupants were found. Two residents from a neighbouring apartment suite were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is considered accidental due to an electrical malfunction. No damage estimates are available at this time.

At 4:55 a.m. WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a residential four-plex in the 500 block of Stella Avenue. When crews arrived to the scene they found heavy smoke coming from the building and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 5:18 a.m.

All occupants of the building self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One individual was assessed on scene by paramedics and transported to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Motorists are reminded that driving over a hose is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act. Doing so can create unsafe conditions for firefighters and put others in the vicinity at-risk.
