On-street parking rates to decrease by $0.75 beginning July 1

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg will implement the on-street paid parking price reduction of $0.75 per hour over the next six to eight weeks, beginning July 1, 2020.

On-street parking is an important service for Winnipeg’s residents, visitors, hospitals, and businesses. This change is expected to increase overall demand for on-street paid parking and would better align Winnipeg’s average rate with those of comparably-sized cities across Canada.

Stretch of Taylor Avenue to close intermittently for sewer repair

Winnipeg, MB – An intermittent full closure of Taylor Avenue from Nathaniel Street to Harrow Street will begin overnight.

The closure will be in effect from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, from June 26 to July 1 to accommodate sewer repair work.

Motorists must use alternate routes during this time and are encouraged to detour via either Poseidon Bay or Nathaniel Street when travelling eastbound and either Stafford Street or Harrow Street when travelling west to avoid residential cut-through traffic.

City of Winnipeg to resume limited day camps, extend temporary patio registrations

Winnipeg, MB – Select City of Winnipeg summer day camps for preschool, children and youth are expected to start the week of July 6. Registration for limited day camps will begin on Friday, June 26 at 8 a.m.

A limited number of summer day camps will be available for youth aged 3–15 years during July and August. The majority of these day camps will be a week long and offered with options for a morning or afternoon class. Participants must register in advance.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Goulet St and Cumberland Ave

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire in an apartment building in the 300 block of Cumberland Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 7:32 p.m.

All occupants of the building were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Selkirk Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:49 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey home in the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 9:17 p.m.

Crews searched the home and no occupants were located. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Sherbrook Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:07 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a six-storey apartment building in the 600 block of Sherbrook Street, after members of the Winnipeg Police Service general patrol noticed smoke coming from the building.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 1:19 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Marlene Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:24 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a townhouse in the 0-100 block of Marlene Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 2:41 p.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. Paramedics transported one patient to hospital in unstable condition.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damages estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a house fire on Alfred Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:08 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a house fire in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy flames and smoke coming from the home.

Crews used aerial ladders to launch a defensive attack and to protect neighbouring homes from the spread of flames.
