City of Winnipeg to resume limited day camps, extend temporary patio registrations

Released: June 25, 2020 at 1:39 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Select City of Winnipeg summer day camps for preschool, children and youth are expected to start the week of July 6. Registration for limited day camps will begin on Friday, June 26 at 8 a.m.

A limited number of summer day camps will be available for youth aged 3–15 years during July and August. The majority of these day camps will be a week long and offered with options for a morning or afternoon class. Participants must register in advance.

The summer day camps will focus on outdoor activities, so participants should come prepared and dressed accordingly with proper footwear, a nut‑free snack that requires no preparation, a hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, and drinking water. Indoor facilities will be used sparingly as the washroom and meeting sites for day camps; social distancing and hand sanitization protocols will be adhered to when using these facilities.

Participants in the day camps will be required to practice physical distancing, and all participants must maintain a distance of at least two metres from every other individual. Participants will be required to complete a self-assessment for COVID-19 prior to attending each class, and to stay at home if ill with symptoms of COVID-19.

To register for a summer day camp, contact 311 or register online at winnipeg.ca/leisureonline.

A leisureONLINE account is required to register for day camps. Video tutorials are available on how to create an account and how to register for an activity.

Temporary patio registrations
The City is extending the operational dates for Temporary Patio Registrations until September 8, 2020.

The City has been offering an expedited process to allow for restaurants and licensed manufacturers with tasting rooms to establish temporary patio spaces. The temporary patios must comply with the general safety requirements outlined in the Temporary Patio Registration Form, and if registered with the City, will now be allowed to operate without permit until September 8, 2020 unless otherwise extended.
