Edmonton Street closed between Ellice Avenue and Qu'Appelle Avenue on Monday

Winnipeg, MB – Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 22, Edmonton Street will be closed in both directions between Ellice Avenue and Qu’Appelle Avenue until 3 p.m. for building construction and maintenance work.

Sidewalk access will be restricted on the west side of Edmonton Street during the closure. Motorists should allow for additional travel time and must use alternate routes in this area.

Garry Street from Ellice Avenue to Portage Avenue temporarily closed this Sunday

Winnipeg, MB –Garry Street, from Ellice Avenue to Portage Avenue, will be temporarily closed from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. this Sunday, June 21 for building construction and maintenance work.

The closure will include traffic lanes, bicycle lanes, and both east and west sidewalks during this time. Motorists and cyclists should allow additional travel time to get to their destinations and must use alternate routes.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Alfred Avenue, William Avenue and College Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:11 a.m. on June 19, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 500 block of Alfred Avenue. When crews arrived to the address they encountered thick smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 8:24 a.m.

There were no occupants in the house at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are currently available.

Several City of Winnipeg services set to resume June 22

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is set to resume a number of services effective June 22, in accordance with the Province of Manitoba’s Restoring Safe Services plan.

Beginning June 22, the Council Building at City Hall will reopen to the public under limited circumstances. This includes appearing as delegation and meeting with elected officials by appointment. People wishing to appear remotely as delegations will be accommodated.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Garwood Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:02 p.m. on June 18, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the 1000 block of Garwood Avenue. When crews arrived to the address they encountered thick smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 3:19 p.m.

All occupants of the home safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Mandate Letters Delivered and Posted Online for Public Viewing

Winnipeg, MB – Mandate letters have been delivered and are now available online for the public to view, Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

“Mandate letters help provide those in leadership roles with a roadmap toward meeting expectations and a publicly available tool for residents to hold chairs to account,” said Mayor Bowman. “As we collectively begin to adjust to a new normal, I want committee chairs to have increased focus on the impacts of COVID-19 in their portfolios.”

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:26 a.m. on June 18, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, converted residential dwelling in the 500 block of College Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 3:58 a.m. The fire was contained to a single suite.

All occupants from the structure safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to apartment fire on Poplar Avenue

Winnipeg, MB –At 3:31 p.m. on June 17, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey, apartment block in the 300 block of Poplar Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched with the Incident Commander declaring the fire under control at 4:00 p.m. Crews then worked to ventilate smoke from the building. The fire was contained to the suite of origin.

With the aim of protecting and expanding our city’s immense tree canopy, Mayor Brian Bowman launched the Winnipeg Million Tree Challenge last fall to help protect, preserve, and grow Winnipeg’s incredible tree canopy. A few weeks later, Winnipeg was hit with an unprecedented weather event that further deteriorated our tree canopy.
