Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Langside Street and Alexander Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:55 a.m. on July 4, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a converted residential dwelling in the 500 block of Langside Street. When crews arrived on scene they found heavy smoke coming from the structure. An offensive attack was initiated and the fire was declared under control at 3:32 a.m. The building suffered significant smoke, fire and water damage.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to apartment fire on Sherbrook Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:47 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in an apartment block in the 900 block of Sherbrook Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 9:30 a.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival, with assistance from the Winnipeg Police Service. Paramedics transported one person to hospital in stable condition.

Stretch of Taylor Avenue to close overnight on Sunday for sewer repair

Winnipeg, MB – Taylor Avenue from Harrow Street to Stafford Street will be closed from Sunday, July 5 at 8 p.m. to Monday, July 6 at 6 a.m. to accommodate overnight sewer repair work.

Motorists must use alternate routes during this time and are encouraged to detour via Grant Avenue when travelling eastbound and Pembina Highway to Harrow Street when travelling west to avoid residential cut-through traffic.

Living Prairie Museum updates summer hours and public programming

Winnipeg, MB – The Living Prairie Museum Interpretive Centre will adjust its public programming on Saturday, July 4, 2020.

As of tomorrow, people may now visit the centre on both Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and can also register for public guided hikes at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Guests must register in advance for the hikes by contacting the Living Prairie Museum at 204-832-0167. To ensure physical distancing, groups are restricted to 5 guests per interpreter.

City selects neighbourhoods to participate in residential food waste collection pilot

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has selected the five neighbourhoods participating in the residential food waste collection pilot project, which is set to begin in October. An update on the pilot project will be presented to the Standing Policy Committee on Water and Waste, Riverbank Management and the Environment on July 8.

Approximately 4,000 homes from the following neighbourhoods will be selected to participate:

City outdoor pools and wading pools set to begin opening on July 3

Winnipeg, MB – Select outdoor pools and wading pools are scheduled to open to the public as early as July 3, with staggered openings for locations throughout the city. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Furby Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:26 p.m. on June 29, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in the three-storey apartment block in the 500 block of Furby Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy black smoke in the building and launched an offensive attack. The fire was quickly brought under control, contained to the suite of origin. Crews then worked to ventilate the smoke from the rest of the building.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Alexander Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:33 a.m. on June 27, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 1100 block of Alexander Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered the house and garage on the property well-involved with flames. A defensive attack was launched as it was unsafe for firefighters to enter the structures. Crews worked through the night to extinguish the fire and protect neighbouring homes.
