Citizens encouraged to get involved on Boards and Commissions

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is now accepting applications for positions on various Boards and Commissions until October 16, 2020.

The City Clerk’s Department initiates an annual selection process to fill citizen member positions to Boards and Commissions on which there are imminent or existing vacancies.

Applications are now being accepted to fill vacancies on the following boards:

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Arlington Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:35 p.m. on August 5, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 400 block of Arlington Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the home. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 9:52 p.m.

City of Winnipeg reopening additional facilities and wading pools

Winnipeg, MB – As of July 30, all staff from the Community Services Department who were temporarily laid off as a result of COVID-19 have been recalled. The final group of recalls was completed enabling the City to reopen a number of recreation facilities.

Beginning today, August 4, four more wading pools are reopening:

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Agnes Street and a technical rescue on Ronald Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:49 p.m. on Monday, August 3,2020 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 300 block of Agnes Street.

When crews arrived in scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 4:28 p.m.

Crews searched the home and confirmed there were no occupants inside. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Kennedy Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:17 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Kennedy Street.

When crews arrived, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 9:45 a.m.

Paramedics assessed one patient on scene but no transportation to hospital was required.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on William Avenue West

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:57 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey home in the 1300 block of William Avenue West.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke and flames coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:46 p.m.

One person was transported to hospital in stable condition. No damage estimates are available.

City adds another street to list of open street routes designated for active transportation

Winnipeg, MB – In an effort to assist with social distancing requirements and provide additional recreational opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City has added Vialoux Drive to the list of open street routes designated for active transportation.

The following nine streets in Winnipeg are currently designated as open street routes, effective until Monday, September 7, 2020:

Assiniboine Forest reopened

Winnipeg, MB – The portion of Assiniboine Forest previously closed due to dangerous coyote activity has been reopened.

Visitors are reminded to be vigilant in observing their surroundings and advised that all dogs must be kept on-leash.

Any sightings of aggressive or otherwise odd coyote behaviours should be reported to the Province of Manitoba at 1-800-782-0076.

Freight House outdoor swimming pool opens today

Winnipeg, MB – The Freight House Recreation Centre outdoor pool, located at 200 Isabel Street, will be open for public use today. This is a free non-heated pool and operates from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. daily. A spray pad is also available at this site and is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily.
