At 12:06 a.m. on August 10, 2020, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in two-storey home in the 400 block of Kirkbridge Drive.
Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the home. An attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 12:35 a.m.
All occupants of the home had safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews upon the activation of the smoke alarm. No injuries were reported.
Preliminary observations suggest the fire was accidental. It’s believed sparks generated from the use of power tools smoldered for several hours in debris next to the home before starting the fire.
Residents are reminded that conditions are extremely dry right now and caution needs to be taken when doing construction work like this. In addition, residents should always butt out cigarettes properly. The improper disposal of smoking materials, particularly when weather is dry, can cause planter fires, and grass and brush fires. Butts should never be disposed of in vegetation or out car windows.
