Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Balmoral Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:38 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey building in the 500 block of Balmoral Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 10:51 p.m.

Paramedics assessed one patient on scene and no transportation to hospital was required. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Pritchard Avenue and Maryland Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:09 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 200 block of Pritchard Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered flames and smoke coming from the house.

Crews launched an offensive attack, but deteriorating conditions forced them to switch to a defensive exterior attack. The fire was declared under control at 3:08 a.m. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Austin Street North and Dalemore Lane

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:46 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 200 block of Austin Street North.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from the home.

Crews launched an offensive attack, but deteriorating conditions forced them to switch to a defensive attack, using aerial ladders and an exterior attack.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Sherbrook Street and Pritchard Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:18 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 300 block of Pritchard Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy flames smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 7:49 a.m.

Crews searched the house and confirmed there were no occupants inside. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Manitoba Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:05 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-storey home in the 1100 block of Manitoba Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:34 p.m.

Residential adult nuisance mosquito fogging program to begin tomorrow

Winnipeg, MB – In response to a recent increase in adult nuisance mosquitoes, the City of Winnipeg will begin its residential adult nuisance mosquito fogging program on Thursday, July 23, 2020. Fogging will begin at 9:30 p.m., weather permitting.

Based on the Adulticiding Factor Analysis (AFA) factors, which include trap counts, the city-wide rating moved from MEDIUM to HIGH on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. Today, the city-wide trap count is 59.

All Winnipeg Public Library branches offering holds pick-up service beginning August 4

Winnipeg, MB – Book returns are now being accepted at all Winnipeg Public Library locations (except Cornish, which is currently closed for construction) during operating hours. Operating hours for each branch are available online, and book return slots will not be open to customers outside of operating hours.

All remaining Winnipeg Public Library branches currently closed due to COVID-19 will begin offering holds pick-up service and telephone service beginning Tuesday, August 4.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Day Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:36 p.m. on July 19, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in convenience store in the 1300 block of Day Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews located a small fire and quickly brought it under control.

Occupants of the building safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported. Manitoba Public Health Inspectors attended the scene to determine if food products in the store were contaminated due to the smoke and fire.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Redwood Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:21 p.m. on July 17, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey house in the 200 block of Redwood Avenue. Upon arrival on scene crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the residence. Bystanders indicated the occupant of the house may be trapped inside. Crews immediately launched an offensive attack and search.

No occupants were located inside and no injuries were reported. The fire was declared under control at 12:53 p.m.

Portions of King Street and William Avenue to temporarily close

Winnipeg, MB – The following lane closures will be in place for all vehicular traffic starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, July 20 until 4 p.m. on Friday, July 31, to facilitate the demolition of the former Public Safety Building (PSB).

  • Northbound King Street from William Avenue to James Avenue
  • Eastbound and westbound William Avenue from Princess Street to King Street

Pedestrian access will be maintained on the east side of King Street via the City Hall courtyard, and on the south side of William Avenue while the closure is in place.
