Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Langside Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:56 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 500 block of Langside Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 4:26 p.m.

Crews searched the home and no occupants were located. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

City seeking feedback regarding Open Streets

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is asking for feedback from residents as we evaluate options for the potential future implementation of Open Streets (Enhanced Sunday/Holiday Bicycle Routes).

Currently, the City of Winnipeg Traffic By-Law defines a Sunday/Holiday Bicycle Route as limiting motor vehicle traffic to one block from the Sunday before Victoria Day (May long weekend) to Thanksgiving weekend from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to carbon monoxide incident on Westwood Drive

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:39 a.m. on August 16, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a carbon monoxide alarm activation inside a townhouse suite in the 300 block of Westwood Drive.

Upon arrival on scene, crews used a detector inside the suite and immediately confirmed the presence of carbon monoxide with readings between 100-120 parts per million (ppm). Crews gained access to neighbouring suites and confirmed all had carbon monoxide present, with one suite reading up to 1000 ppm.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Queenston Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:59 p.m. on August 14, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 100 block of Queenston Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke flames coming from the roof of the home. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 12:39 a.m.

All occupants of the home self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Major roadwork on Empress Street concludes

Winnipeg, MB – Today, Councillor Matt Allard, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works was joined by dignitaries from the Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba to announce the conclusion of roadworks on Empress Street from Portage Avenue to St. Matthews Avenue.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Barber Street and Smith Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:14 a.m. on August 13, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire at a one-and-a-half-storey house in the 100 block of Barber Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke and a well-involved fire on the deck of the house. An attack was launched and the fire was very quickly brought under control. The deck was destroyed and the adjoining house suffered damage to the exterior siding.

Winnipeg Transit Fall Schedule in effect Sunday, September 6

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Transit’s Fall Schedule will take effect Sunday, September 6, and is structured to respond to an anticipated increase in ridership while ensuring the safety of our passengers and our bus operators.

Currently, ridership is approximately 50 percent of what it was this time last year, but we expect this number to increase in the fall as schools re-open.
