Winnipeg, MB – At 12:55 a.m. on August 28, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-and-a-half storey duplex in the 500 block of McDermot Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is inviting residents to provide input into an active transportation link between St. Boniface and Downtown.

The St. Boniface to Downtown Walk Bike Project aims to improve travel choices, accessibility, and connectivity between the Esplanade Riel footbridge/Provencher Bridge and the multi-use path on Archibald Street south of Nairn Avenue.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Mountain Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:12 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the house. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 6:06 p.m.

Crews searched the house and confirmed there were no occupants inside. Paramedics assessed two firefighters on scene and one firefighter was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Bannatyne Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a house fire in the 400 block of Bannatyne Avenue. The fire was called in by members of the Winnipeg Police Service’s general patrol.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. Crews launched a defensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 7:33 p.m.

Outdoor aquatics facilities set to close for the season

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s wading pools, outdoor pools, and spray pads are set to close in the coming days and weeks.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Marksbridge Drive

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:33 p.m. on August 22, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in the first 100 block of Marksbridge Drive.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with flames and smoke coming from the home. Crews launched a defensive external attack, declaring the fire under control at 4:07 p.m.

Crews searched the home and no occupants were located. One person was transported to hospital in stable condition. Crew located a cat and safely reunited it with its owner.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Beverley Street and in three department stores

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:25 p.m. on August 20, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey home in the 300 block of Beverley Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. A defensive attack was launched but once some of the fire was knocked down, crews were able to transition to an interior attack. The fire was declared under control at 12:03 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to carbon monoxide incident on Brookshire Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:35 p.m. on August 19, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a carbon monoxide alarm activation inside a single-family home on Brookshire Street. Occupants of the home had self-evacuated the residence.

Upon arrival on scene, crews used a CO detector and immediately confirmed the presence of carbon monoxide with readings between 108 parts per million (ppm). Paramedics assessed all five individuals and transported them all to hospital in stable condition.

Upcoming temporary closures and restrictions at the intersection of Fermor Avenue and Lagimodière Boulevard

Winnipeg, MB – Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 21, temporary closures and traffic restrictions at the intersection of Fermor Avenue at Lagimodière Boulevard will be in effect until 9 p.m. on Sunday, August 23 for paving operations.

Motorists travelling either eastbound or westbound on Fermor Avenue will not be able to cross the intersection; only right turns onto northbound or southbound Lagimodière Boulevard will be permitted.

Winnipeggers can participate in a series of discussions on the Road Safety Strategic Action Plan, which – once complete – will help guide the City’s efforts in preventing serious injury and death on our roads by recommending both solutions for short-term implementation and requirements for long-term investment.
