Winnipeg, MB – At 11:25 p.m. on August 20, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey home in the 300 block of Beverley Street.
When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. A defensive attack was launched but once some of the fire was knocked down, crews were able to transition to an interior attack. The fire was declared under control at 12:03 a.m.
The sole occupant of the home safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One neighbouring home was evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are currently available.
The WFPS responded to three separate fires in Walmart stores last evening. The first fire was reported at 6:07 p.m. at the store in the 1000 block of Empress Street. Hand-held extinguishers were used and arriving crews completed extinguishment of the fire.
At 7:19 p.m. crews were called to the store in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West. Again, crews used hand-held extinguishers to ensure the fire was out completely.
At 8:49 p.m. WFPS responded to a third fire in the store in the 2300 block of McPhillips Street. The fire was out on arrival.
The fires are considered suspicious and are being investigated by the Winnipeg Police Service.
