Statement from Mayor Brian Bowman Regarding Significant Funding Milestone for the North End Sewage Treatment Plant

Winnipeg, MB – Statement from Mayor Bowman:

“Since 2016, the City of Winnipeg has been alone in its efforts to upgrade the North End Sewage Treatment Plant and today marks a milestone in those efforts to gain significant funding commitments from the provincial and federal governments.

A report published today communicates the provincial government's request to transfer approximately $320 Million from the federal Public Transit Infrastructure Stream to the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Mountain Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:43 a.m. on September 15, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue. The fire was reported by on-duty Winnipeg Police Service members.

When WFPS crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. As it was not safe to enter the house, a defensive attack was launched. The fire was declared under control at 5:06 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Burrows Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:06 p.m. on September 14, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 500 block of Burrows Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the house and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 7:54 p.m.

A search of the structure was completed and no occupants were located. No injuries were reported.

Public advised of potential COVID-19 exposure on Winnipeg Transit routes

Winnipeg, MB – Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living has indicated a bus passenger who has since tested positive for COVID-19 rode Transit on multiple occasions between August 31 and September 2.

During that time period, the passenger took bus routes 11 and 14 from approximately 8 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. and from 7:30 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. on each day. Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living has indicated the exposure risk is low, but those who travelled on these routes at these times are asked to monitor for symptoms.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Stella Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:42 a.m. on September 12, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house under construction in the 400 block of Stella Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the structure and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:06 a.m.

A search of the structure was completed and no occupants were located. One firefighter was assessed on scene by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Disraeli Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:33 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant three-storey duplex in the 0-100 block of Disraeli Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 9:57 p.m.

Crews searched the building and confirmed there were no people inside. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Southdale residents can now slide or swing over to Burmac Park

Winnipeg, MB – Mayor Brian Bowman, Councillor Sherri Rollins, and Councillor Matt Allard participated in a ribbon cutting today to recognize playground renovations at Burmac Park. The park improvements include a brand-new play structure and swing set.

“This is the type of project that makes a big difference in the lives of neighbourhood families,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Having a brand-new playground down the street is a tremendous opportunity for kids in this area and I know families will enjoy this playground for many years to come.”
