Winnipeg, MB – Today, Mayor Brian Bowman joined the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) recruitment committee for a status update as the recruitment process to find the City of Winnipeg’s next CAO resumed.
“After the CAO recruitment process was paused to allow the multi-year balanced budget process conclude in March, normal life as we know it changed dramatically due to the global pandemic,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “With the establishment of a new normal, I was happy to meet with the recruitment committee today to review the current status and commence next steps.”
At the time the pause was announced on December 13, 2019, the recruitment committee was concerned with the lack of diversity among the recommended pool of candidates. This was a topic of discussion in today’s meeting, as well as the process for selecting a new national recruitment consultant.
“I would like to commend the strong leadership of our interim CAO, Mike Ruta, who has done incredible work in helping the City navigate a challenging time in our city’s and nation’s history,” said Mayor Bowman. “With the unprecedented weather event in October 2019 followed by the City’s first ever multi-year balanced budget process which concluded during a global pandemic, we are very fortunate to have Mike Ruta as our interim CAO.”
Over the coming weeks, the recruitment committee will be working on finalizing and posting an updated Request for Proposals (RFP) for a new national recruitment firm.
“We hope to select a new recruitment firm as soon as possible so we can commence a national search for a new CAO,” said Mayor Bowman.
