Winnipeg, MB – At 1:43 a.m. on September 15, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue. The fire was reported by on-duty Winnipeg Police Service members.
When WFPS crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. As it was not safe to enter the house, a defensive attack was launched. The fire was declared under control at 5:06 a.m.
The WFPS drone, with its thermal imaging camera, was used at the scene to provide the Incident Commander with aerial views of the fire. This assisted by locating hot spots so water streams could be strategically deployed.
Two neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. All residents have now been allowed to return to their homes. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time but the house had previously been damaged by a fire last month.
