Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a gas leak on Winchester Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:41 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a smell of gas in the 400 block of Winchester Street.

Manitoba Hydro crews responded to the scene and found high levels of natural gas in a sewer line, and are working to mitigate the risk to the public.

WFPS crews evacuated several nearby homes. Other households were able to safely shelter in place. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Redwood Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:08 a.m. on Monday, February 22, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half storey home in the 600 block of Redwood Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the home. Crews launched a defensive attack until they could safely switch tactics to an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 2:45 a.m.

Crews searched the home to confirm there was no one inside. No injuries were reported.

Recruitment Committee Recommends New Chief Financial Officer for the City of Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB – The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) recruitment committee has recommended the appointment of Catherine Kloepfer as the City of Winnipeg’s new CFO.

“I want to thank the recruitment committee for their work in searching for the City’s next CFO,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Catherine KIoepfer has over thirty years of public and private sector experience in financial management to draw upon, including at the Winnipeg Airport Authority and a number of community boards, organizations and corporations.”

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire at temporary encampment

Winnipeg, MB – At 11 a.m. on February 16, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of an explosion and fire in a temporary encampment in the first 100 block of Higgins Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found a temporary structure engulfed in smoke and flames. It’s believed the explosions were a result of aerosols igniting.

Upon the extinguishment of the fire, crews located one individual deceased. There were no other injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Milton Street and McDermot Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires in the city.

Milton Street Fire

At 9:47 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of fire in a house under construction in the 200 block of Milton Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered the house completely engulfed in flames. The fire extended to the two neighbouring houses – one occupied and one under construction. Crews launched a defensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 10:45 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Kingston Row

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:09 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of fire in a home’s attached garage in the 200 block of Kingston Row.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from the garage. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 1:25 p.m.

Occupants of the home safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One firefighter was transported to hospital in stable condition for an injury obtained on scene.
