Winnipeg, MB – The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) recruitment committee has recommended the appointment of Catherine Kloepfer as the City of Winnipeg’s new CFO.

“I want to thank the recruitment committee for their work in searching for the City’s next CFO,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Catherine KIoepfer has over thirty years of public and private sector experience in financial management to draw upon, including at the Winnipeg Airport Authority and a number of community boards, organizations and corporations.”

The CFO recruitment consisted of Councillors Gillingham, Gilroy and Chambers and with the dual reporting relationship to members of Council, interim CAO Mike Ruta was also a part of the committee.

“I am pleased to put forward Ms. Kloepfer’s name for the role of Chief Financial Officer for the City of Winnipeg,” said Councillor Scott Gillingham, St James Ward and Chair of the CFO recruitment committee. “A proven executive leader, Ms. Kloepfer’s extensive professional background in the private sector and her work on various boards would be important assets to the residents of Winnipeg. Over her career, she has regularly engaged with all levels of government, making a transition to role as Winnipeg’s CFO a natural fit.

“It’s with great pleasure that I support putting Catherine Kloepfer’s name forward as the new Chief Financial Officer for the City of Winnipeg,” said Councillor Cindy Gilroy, Daniel McIntyre Ward. “Her experience is extensive including most recently as CFO at the Winnipeg Airport Authority. If approved by Council, we look forward to working with her to help her build relationships within the city and the community to provide all Winnipeggers with solid financial management while at the same time meeting the social needs of the community.”

“The role of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is challenging at the best of times but adding in the complexities of a global pandemic warrants steady financial guidance to weather the storm. A new‑to‑role CFO will want to make an impact upon transition as they are in the spotlight, which understandably adds to the many pressures of the role,” said Councillor Markus Chambers, St Norbert – Seine River Ward. “I would be happy to see Catherine Kloepfer as CFO with the City of Winnipeg. She has demonstrated she is a transformative business leader who shapes and challenges strategy and will support Council and the CEO as we move toward economic recovery.”

Now that the recruitment committee has recommended a candidate, Executive Policy Committee approval will be required on February 17, 2021 to confirm the selection followed by Winnipeg City Council on February 25, 2021.
