City of Winnipeg extending temporary patio registration program

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is extending the temporary patio registration program through the upcoming summer season.

The extension of the program will allow registered eligible businesses to operate under the summer temporary patio program from April 1, 2021 to October 31, 2021. Last summer, the City had over 60 local businesses register for operation under the temporary patio program.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Mazenod Road

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:47 a.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a commercial / industrial building in the 300 block of Mazenod Road.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke throughout the facility and sprinkler systems were activated. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control 7:26 a.m., and was confined to an industrial compacting unit.

All staff in the facility safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Larsen Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:08 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half-storey, single-family home in the 300 block of Larsen Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke in the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was very quickly declared under control.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Semple Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:32 p.m. on February 27, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey house in the 200 block of Semple Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 9:02 p.m.

All occupants of the house self-evacuated before the arrival of crews. Three individuals were assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital, all in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to two structure fires

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires on Thursday, February 25, 2021.

Ferndale Avenue

At 10:37 a.m., the WFPS to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 200 block of Ferndale Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, there was heavy smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 10:56 a.m.

City of Winnipeg fitness facilities to re-open for limited service, additional libraries to open and extend hours of operation

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is reopening a number of recreation and leisure facilities previously closed due to COVID-19, and recalling approximately 75 temporary, part-time employees who were previously laid off to support the reopening of these facilities.

Beginning Monday, March 8 the following recreation and leisure facilities will re-open for limited fitness service only:

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a gas leak on Winchester Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:41 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a smell of gas in the 400 block of Winchester Street.

Manitoba Hydro crews responded to the scene and found high levels of natural gas in a sewer line, and are working to mitigate the risk to the public.

WFPS crews evacuated several nearby homes. Other households were able to safely shelter in place. No injuries were reported.
