Released: February 13, 2021 at 9:46 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires this evening.

Hampton Street Fire

At 6:41 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, single family house in the 200 block of Hampton Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. An offensive attack was initially launched, but crews were forced to exit the structure and transition to a defensive attack due to worsening conditions. Once conditions improved, they were able to once again enter the structure, declaring the fire under control at 8:06 p.m.

All occupants of the house self-evacuated prior to crews arriving. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no damage estimates are available at this time.

College Avenue Fire

At 6:55 p.m. on February 13, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey, multi-family home in the 300 block of College Avenue.

When they arrived at the scene, crews encountered smoke inside the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 8:06 p.m.

Most occupants of the structure safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. Firefighters assisted one individual out of the structure. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no damage estimates are available at this time.

Drivers should use caution near both fire scenes, as water used to fight the fires has covered the roads and is now frozen. City crews will be monitoring the areas and applying sand and de-icing agents as required.
