Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires on Thursday, February 25, 2021.
Ferndale Avenue
At 10:37 a.m., the WFPS to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 200 block of Ferndale Avenue.
When crews arrived on scene, there was heavy smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 10:56 a.m.
Crews searched the building to ensure all occupants had safely evacuated. No injuries were reported. Crews rescued a dog and a cat from inside the suite where the fire originated and reunited both animals with their owner. Crews rescued two other cats from another nearby suite and reunited them with their owners.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was dispatched to the scene to assist displaced residents in finding temporary housing.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
McMeans Avenue East
At 2:12 p.m., the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a four-unit residence in the 800 block of McMeans Avenue. When crews arrived on scene, heavy smoke was coming from the building.
Crews launched an offensive attack, but deteriorating conditions forced crews to switch to a defensive attack. Crews declared the fire under control at 3:04 p.m.
Crews searched the building and confirmed there were no people inside. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
