On-Request replaces DART service and aims to increase service efficiency and decrease wait times for passengers
Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Transit is launching an On-Request transit service pilot project on August 12, 2021 which aims to modernize transit service in Winnipeg, by allowing passengers to book rides with the easy-to-use Winnipeg Transit On-Request mobile app. On-Request transit service uses innovative trip planning software and GPS technology to plan bus routes in real-time and respond immediately to passengers’ trip requests.
Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two residential fires since last evening.
At 4:34 a.m. on August 4, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, five-unit townhouse complex in the 0-100 block of Westgrove Way.
When crews arrived on scene they found heave smoke coming from one of the units. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 5:38 a.m.
Winnipeg, MB – At 12:04 p.m. on Monday, August 2, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a report of a fire inside a large, single-story commercial building in the 700 block of Jarvis Avenue.
When crews arrived, smoke was coming from inside the building. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 1:13 p.m.
Crews searched the building and no occupants were located.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
Winnipeg, MB – Stretches of Empress Street and Sargent Avenue will be temporarily closed for water main repairs beginning tomorrow morning and extending until Wednesday, August 11.
Empress Street, from Wellington Avenue to Yukon Avenue, will be closed from Tuesday, August 3 at 7 a.m. until Wednesday, August 11 at 5 p.m.
Sargent Avenue, from Sanford Street to Milt Stegall Drive, will be closed from Tuesday, August 3 at 7 a.m. until Wednesday, August 11 at 5 p.m.
Pedestrian access will be maintained along both these closures.
Winnipeg, MB – At 11:25 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a report of a fire alarm sounding in a high-rise apartment building in the 400 block of Edmonton Street.
When crews arrived, they located a fire contained to one suite. Crews extinguished the fire quickly, declaring the fire under control at 12:01 a.m.
One patient was transported to hospital in stable condition. All occupants were able to return to their suites after crews completed their work on scene.
Winnipeg, MB – At 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 600 block of William Avenue.
When crews arrived, smoke and flames were coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 2:48 a.m. Firefighters searched the building and ensured all occupants safely evacuated.
Paramedics assessed one firefighter on scene and no transportation to hospital was required.
Winnipeg, MB – Beginning this weekend and every weekend until the end of August, King Street alongside Old Market Square, between Bannatyne Avenue and William Avenue, will be temporarily closed to allow area businesses and food trucks more space to operate.
The King Street closure for this weekend will begin tomorrow, July 31 at 5 a.m. and last until Sunday, August 1 at midnight. For the ensuing weekends, the closure will begin on Friday at 6 p.m. and last until Sunday at midnight.

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:52 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of an outdoor fire in the 500 block of Furby Street. Upon arrival, crews became aware of a fire in a three-storey apartment building at the same location.
Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 4:54 a.m. Firefighters searched the building and ensured all occupants safely evacuated.
Paramedics transported two patients to hospital, one in stable condition and one in unstable condition.
