Winnipeg, MB – At 3:52 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of an outdoor fire in the 500 block of Furby Street. Upon arrival, crews became aware of a fire in a three-storey apartment building at the same location.
Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 4:54 a.m. Firefighters searched the building and ensured all occupants safely evacuated.
Paramedics transported two patients to hospital, one in stable condition and one in unstable condition.
A Winnipeg Transit bus was deployed to the scene as a temporary shelter for occupants while crews completed their work on scene. The City’s Emergency Social Services team was dispatched to the scene to assist 18 residents in finding alternative accommodations until the affected suites are safe for re-entry. Other occupants were able to return to their suites once crews departed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
