Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to an overnight fire on William Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 600 block of William Avenue.

When crews arrived, smoke and flames were coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 2:48 a.m. Firefighters searched the building and ensured all occupants safely evacuated.

Paramedics assessed one firefighter on scene and no transportation to hospital was required.

The City’s Emergency Social Services team was dispatched to the scene to assist 8 residents in finding alternative accommodations until the affected suites are safe for re-entry. Other occupants were able to return to their suites once crews departed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
