Winnipeggers always come together to lend a helping hand to fellow residents in times of need, and the same is true of City of Winnipeg employees.
The COVID-19 pandemic is placing increased demand on local food banks at a time when they are increasingly hard-pressed to find volunteers to assist.
Employees from the City’s Community Services Department are pitching in at Winnipeg Harvest to help the non-profit by sorting food and stocking hampers destined for members of our community in need.
“One of our department’s focus areas is providing responsive community-based service that promotes healthy neighbourhoods and addressing this growing need at Winnipeg Harvest was a perfect fit,” said Cindy Fernandes, Director of the Community Services Department.
“We’re working together to help our most vulnerable at a time of increased need.”
All City-owned and operated recreation centres, pools, arenas, and libraries are closed to the public until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This freed up 23 employees to regularly assist at Winnipeg Harvest on weekdays.
