2024 budget receives national award

City Council Chambers

We have once again been awarded a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The award, presented by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), recognizes our work on the 2024 budget.

According to the GFOA, this award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. The budget was reviewed by an independent panel, and meets nationally-recognized guidelines for how well the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, a guide for operations, and a device to communicate with citizens and staff.

The budget also received special recognition in performance measures. This recognition is given when all three reviewers give the highest possible score.

The 2024 budget is the product of months of collaboration between City departments and elected officials.

“There is an incredible amount of work that goes into creating the budget document,” said Tracy Graham, the City’s Chief Financial Officer.

“Receiving this award is a great achievement. It reflects our commitment to meeting the highest principles of budgeting for the City and its residents.”

Based in Chicago, Illinois, the GFOA represents public finance officials throughout Canada and the United States. It has more than 22,500 members from all levels of government.
