Carjacking – Investigation: C22-93750

On May 6, 2022, at approximately 12:45 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 700 block of Wellington Avenue for the report of a male stabbed during a carjacking.

Officers located an injured male in his fifties and provided emergency medical care, including a chest seal. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

The victim reported after parking his vehicle; he was approached by a group of unknown males asking for a cigarette. Subsequently, he was stabbed, and they fled in his vehicle.

Homicide – Update: C22-92673

As previously released:

On May 4, 2022, at 9:02 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 400 block of Young Street for a report of a disturbance and a serious assault.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult male near the house.

Update:

The deceased has been identified as Scott Matthew Catcheway, a 39-year-old male of Winnipeg.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Public Assistance Requested: C22-73395

As previously released:

On April 9, 2022, at approximately 9:10 p.m., a police unit attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle with lapsed insurance in the area of Selkirk Avenue and McKenzie Street. The driver of the car failed to stop and fled but was not pursued.

Soon after, the vehicle was found to have collided with a building in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue. The driver, a 27-year-old male, was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased.

Homicide – Investigation: C22-92673

On May 4, 2022, at 9:02 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 400 block of Young Street for a report of a disturbance and a serious assault.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult male near the house.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Homicide – Investigation: C22-91718

On May 3, 2022, at 10:08 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a parkade at The Forks for a report of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured adult male and began to provide emergency medical care. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Kyle James Craik, a 27-year-old male of Winnipeg.

Drug – Arrests: C22-91036

On May 3, 2022, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of Spence Street as part of a drug trafficking investigation.

Three adults were arrested; 27 grams of crack cocaine (estimated street value of $2000), drug packing materials and approximately $10,000 in Canadian currency were seized.

Brock Bentley MANN, 21, of Winnipeg, has been charged with drug trafficking offences and was detained in custody.

PIN Theft at ATMs – Public Advisory

In the past several weeks, the Winnipeg Police Service has received several reports about purses/wallets being stolen and the payment cards contained within. The payment cards are subsequently used to withdraw funds at ATMs using the victim’s Personal Identification Number (PIN). The suspect(s) works alone or often in a group to obtain a victim’s PIN by using the technique of “shoulder surfing” while the victim enters their PIN at a retail location or ATM.

Carjacking – Arrest: C22-90601

Update:

On May 3, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service issued a release seeking the public’s assistance in locating a white Mercedes stolen during a carjacking at a convenience store in the 700 block of Corydon Avenue on May 2, 2022.

Yesterday afternoon, an off-duty officer spotted the stolen vehicle driving in the Glenwood neighbourhood and called for police back-up.

The driver was taken into custody and turned over to the Major Crimes Unit. Investigators identified this suspect as the same person involved in the carjacking.

Firearm & Drug – Arrest: C22-89128

On May 1, 2022, members of the North District and West District Community Support Units, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Battery Street in relation to a drug investigation. Two adults were taken into custody, a firearm and over $20,000 worth of drugs were seized during this investigation:

Carjacking – Investigation: C22-90601

On May 2, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m., General Patrol officers from the West District responded to the report of a carjacking at a convenience store in the 700 block of Corydon Avenue.

Officers met with three victims (an adult male and two females) who indicated that as they returned to their parked vehicle, an unknown male brandishing a weapon approached the male driver. The suspect demanded the keys, assaulted the male on the ground, and fled in the car. The driver sustained minor injuries.
