On August 9, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the Kildonan Place Shopping Mall located at 1555 Regent Avenue for the report of a male observed by mall security to be armed with a machete.

Officers from the East District attended and located the adult male suspect nearby, placing him under arrest without incident. The suspect was found to be in possession of a machete, a sawed-off .22 caliber rifle, and ammunition at the time of his arrest.

Officers believe the suspect attended the mall and was in the act of shoplifting when confronted by mall security. Security directed the male to leave the premises, noting the machete in his hand and prompting them to alert police. The suspect complied with the security officers’ request and left the mall without incident.

Cale Justice FIDDLER, 21, of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following offences:

- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
- Possession of a Weapon

He was detained in custody.
