Homicide – Investigation: C22-190799

As previously released:

The Winnipeg Police Service recently issued a media release regarding the murder of Danielle Ballantyne (100 block of Jarvis Avenue and a string of serious assaults that occurred in close proximity to each other during the early morning hours on August 22, 2022.

Homicide – Arrest: C22-190799

Update:

The Homicide Unit has identified two suspects in the murder of Danielle Ballantyne and the two serious assaults in the 600 and 800 block of Main Street on the morning of August 22, 2022.

On August 24, 2022, members of the Homicide Unit charged a 15-year-old youth male with Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault x 2. He was detained in custody.

A Canada-Wide warrant for Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault x 2 has been issued for a second youth male.

Drugs & Stolen Property – Arrest: C22-192487

On August 24, 2022, at approximately 5:45 a.m., West District officers were patrolling the River Heights neighbourhood when they observed two individuals toting around four bicycles near Corydon Avenue and Oxford Street.

Officers identified the individuals and established that one of them had an outstanding warrant, and placed them under arrest.

During the arrest and subsequent investigation, officers seized drugs, weapons and stolen cheques and identity documents:

- 17.5 grams of methamphetamine (estimated street value of $900)
- bear spray

Aggravated Assault/Break & Enter – Arrest: C22-190966/190480

On August 22, 2022, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a serious assault at a residence in the Woodcrest Drive neighbourhood.

An adult male was transported to hospital in critical condition and remains in guarded condition.

Police arrested an adult male, and the investigation was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit.

A subsequent investigation revealed the same accused was involved in a residential break-in the previous day, (August 21) in the same neighbourhood.

Homicide – Investigation: C22-182895

On August 13, 2022, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of an injured male on the southeast sidewalk of the Osborne Street Bridge.

Police and emergency services located an adult male with severe trauma to his upper body. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on August 21.

The victim has been identified as a 28-year-old male, Sydney Frederick CHUBB of Winnipeg.

Graffiti – Public Assistance: C21-169123

The Winnipeg Police Service previously released suspect images and a video link for a rash of hateful graffiti symbols that were spray painted on several businesses along the southern portion of Pembina Highway in July 2021.

The Major Crimes Unit, Hate Crimes investigators are again seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male suspect responsible for these offences that occurred between midnight and 4:00 a.m on July 22, 2021. The following businesses were vandalized:

Homicide – Investigation: C22-190799

Update:

Yesterday, the Winnipeg Police Service released information about an adult female found deceased in an apartment in the 100 block of Jarvis Avenueat approximately 7:00 a.m. on August 22.

This suspicious death is now being investigated as a homicide, and the victim has been identified as 36-year-old Danielle Dawn BALLANTYNE of Winnipeg.

Shooting – Investigation: C22-191363

On August 22, 2022, at approximately 8:45 p.m., members of the Central District, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, responded to a shooting in the 500 block of Spence Street.

Officers located an adult male at a residence with serious gunshot wounds and provided emergency medical care, including a chest seal. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

Three suspects in the area were taken into police custody, and the investigation is continuing by the Major Crimes Unit.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Public Assistance: C22190574

On August 21, 2022, at approximately 10:15 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at Portage Avenue and Vaughan Street.

An adult female in her thirties was struck by a vehicle while stepping onto the roadway. She was transported to hospital in critical condition and has since succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and spoke with police.

Members of the Traffic Division seek the public’s assistance from anyone who may have witnessed this incident.

Weapons – Arrest: C22-190495

On August 21, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., North District Community Support Unit officers observed a wanted adult male operating a bicycle in breach of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) near Magnus Avenue and Powers Street.

Officers attempted to stop the male; however, he discarded the backpack he was wearing and fled on the bicycle. After a short pursuit, officers arrested the uncooperative male and recovered the backpack.

The following items were seized as evidence:

- loaded .22 Caliber Revolver
- .22 Caliber rounds x 6
