Homicide – Investigation: C22-190799

As previously released:

The Winnipeg Police Service recently issued a media release regarding the murder of Danielle Ballantyne (100 block of Jarvis Avenue and a string of serious assaults that occurred in close proximity to each other during the early morning hours on August 22, 2022.

Police responded to three assaults, one of which occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m. in the 600 block of Main Street. A seriously injured adult male in his fifties was discovered at the rear of a hotel in this area. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition where he remained.

Investigators from the Homicide Unit and the Major Crimes Unit worked diligently on the homicide that was discovered in the 100 block of Jarvis Avenue (victim Danielle Ballantyne) and two other related assaults (in the 800 block of Main Street and Logan/Disraeli).

During the investigations, two male suspects were identified and believed to have committed the homicide and both aggravated assaults on Main Street.

On August 24, the Homicide Unit charged a 15-year-old youth male with Second Degree Murder and Aggravated assault x 2. He was detained in custody.

A warrant for Second Degree Murder and Aggravated Assault was issued for the outstanding youth suspect. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, a suspect youth’s identity cannot be publicly revealed without judicial authorization.

Update:

As previously released, the Homicide Unit and the Major Crimes Unit are investigating a homicide that was discovered in the 100 block of Jarvis Avenue (victim Danielle Ballantyne) and two other related assaults (in the 800 block of Main Street and Logan/Disraeli).

On August 25, 2022, the victim critically injured in the 600-block assault succumbed to his injuries. The deceased victim is identified as 54-year-old, Marvin William FELIX of Winnipeg. FELIX’s death is determined to be a homicide.

Two additional warrants for Second Degree Murder have been issued for the two above-mentioned youths (a 15-year-old male currently in custody and an outstanding youth male with an existing warrant for murder). One of the initial aggravated assault charges has been upgraded to Second Degree Murder.

Investigators have obtained a Court Order authorizing the release of the identity of a youth suspect sought in connection to this investigation.
