Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a house fire this morning and a townhouse fire yesterday evening.
Young Street Fire
At 8:38 a.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a bungalow in the 500 block of Young Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 8:56 a.m.
One occupant safely self-evacuated. WFPS crews completed a search of the structure and located one additional occupant. That individual was declared deceased on scene.
The fire is under investigation by WFPS and the Winnipeg Police Service. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
Dufferin Avenue Fire
At 7:33 p.m. on Monday, September 20, 2021, the WFPS responded to a report of a fire in a two-storey townhouse complex in the 500 block of Dufferin Avenue.
When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from one of the suites. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 7:58 p.m.
Occupants from the impacted suite safely self-evacuated. Residents from a neighbouring suite were temporarily evacuated by WFPS crews. No injuries were reported. Crews also located and brought two dogs to safety from the fire-impacted suite. The dogs were turned over to the City of Winnipeg’s Animal Services Agency for care.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
