Graham Avenue

Graham Avenue, from Main Street to Fort Street, will be closed on Friday, July 16 at 9 a.m., until Monday, January 31, 2022 at 2 p.m., for building construction. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service issues an open-air fire ban for Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB – Effective today, Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 6 p.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) has issued a fire ban for the city of Winnipeg, until Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 6 p.m., due to current and forecasted dry conditions.

This ban prohibits all residents from engaging in the following activities, even if a permit has previously been issued:

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Selkirk Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:34 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a house in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue.

Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 7:05 p.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. Paramedics assessed one firefighter on scene for a heat-related condition. No transportation to hospital was required and the firefighter returned to duty.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

City of Winnipeg accepting applications for Community Safety and Crime Prevention Program funding

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is now accepting applications for the third Community Safety and Crime Prevention Program funding period.

The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Program was established to provide funding to support community-level activities that strengthen local crime prevention and community safety efforts, promote the exchange of information between community residents, and help build closer relationships between communities and the Winnipeg Police Service.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on College Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:35 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a home in the 600 block of College Avenue.

When crews arrived, smoke and flames were visible. Firefighters launched an offensive attack, but deteriorating conditions required them to switch to a defensive exterior attack while protecting neighbouring homes from fire exposure. When safe to do so, crews switched tactics back to an offensive interior attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:36 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Lomond Boulevard

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:53 a.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a home in the 0-100 block of Lomond Boulevard.

When crews arrived, heavy black smoke was coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 10:04 a.m.

All occupants safely self-evacuated before crews arrived. Paramedics assessed three firefighters for injuries and no transportation to hospital was required.

WFPS update on ongoing response to the grass fire near Centreport Canada Way

Winnipeg, MB – Since Monday, July 5, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) has been on scene at a grass and shrub fire near Centreport Canada Way. The fire has flared up, and has been contained multiple times since Monday.

The risk to life safety is minimal, as the area is uninhabited, and there are no structures at risk of damage in the vicinity.

Upcoming temporary closures on Lagimodiere Boulevard and Day Street

Winnipeg, MB – Two major streets will temporarily close in the coming days to accommodate road construction work.

Lagimodiere Boulevard

The off-ramp from northbound Lagimodiere Boulevard onto westbound Concordia Avenue will be temporarily closed on Sunday, July 11 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. for road construction. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Stewart Street and Blake Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires this morning.

Stewart Street Fire

At 10:30 a.m. on July 8, 2021, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey duplex in the 800 block of Stewart Street.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke coming from the structure and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 10:56 a.m.

All occupants of the duplex safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.
