Winnipeg, MB – At 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 300 block of College Avenue.
When crews arrived on-scene, they found the house fully engulfed in smoke and flames with fire extending to a neighbouring home. A defensive attack was launched on the house fully-engulfed in flames. Crews were able to enter the neighbouring house to extinguish hot spots. The fire was declared under control at 7:53 a.m.
All occupants in the damaged neighbouring house safely self-evacuated with their pets prior to the arrival of crews. Residents in the other neighbouring home were evacuated by crews. No injuries were reported. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was called to assist the families in finding alternate accommodations until their homes are safe for re-occupancy.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time. The vacant house where the fire originated is a complete loss and will be demolished due to structural integrity concerns.
