City of Winnipeg announces COVID-19 vaccine requirement for all City staff

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the City of Winnipeg announced an expanded COVID-19 vaccine requirement which will now apply to all City employees.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, the health and safety of our residents and our employees continues to be foremost in our minds,” said Michael Jack, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Winnipeg. “By requiring all of our employees to be fully immunized against COVID-19, we are doing everything we can to keep our employees safe and to protect the critical services they deliver to our residents.”

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Portage Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 19, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a monitored fire alarm in a two-storey school in the 1900 block of Portage Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke coming from building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 11:55 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were located No injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Arthur Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:44 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a monitored fire alarm in six-storey commercial building in the 0-100 block of Arthur Street.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 11:01 a.m.

All occupants of the building safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Victor Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:03 a.m. on Saturday, December 18, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey, single-family home in the 300 block of Victor Street.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke and flames coming from the house and launched an offensive attack. Crews were rotated in and out of operations due to the cold weather conditions. The fire was declared under control at 1:41 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Castle Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:02 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey bungalow in the 600 block of Castle Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke coming from the structure and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 8:16 p.m.

Crews assisted one individual out of the house. They were assessed by on-scene paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to HazMat incident on Main Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:31 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a spill involving a flammable chemical in a laboratory in a high-rise structure on Main Street.

When WFPS crews arrived on scene they evacuated occupants from the building as a precaution. The WFPS HazMat crew entered the building and were able to quickly contain and collect the product for safe disposal. The building was deemed safe for occupancy once the clean-up was complete.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Golspie Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:13 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one-storey manufacturing facility in the 600 block of Golspie Street.

Once crews arrived on-scene, they encountered light smoke and fire coming from a container inside the structure. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 9:48 p.m.

Occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. Crews conducted a search and no other occupants were found. There were no injuries reported.
