Motorists urged to park elsewhere when a residential street is scheduled for snow clearing; residents encouraged to Know Your Zone

Winnipeg, MB – Plowing of residential streets will begin Thursday evening to improve the overall condition of residential streets. As a result, a Residential Parking Ban has been declared and will be in effect starting Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 7 p.m.

Residents are urged to confirm their snow zone letter to determine when their residential street is scheduled for clearing.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on McDermot Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:27 a.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a four-storey commercial/industrial building in the 200 block of McDermot Avenue.

Once on-scene, they noticed fire coming from the structure. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 3:44 a.m.

Crews conducted a search of the building and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Extended Snow Route Parking Ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB – The Extended Snow Route Parking Ban that was put into effect at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 has now been lifted. We thank all residents for their cooperation.

The Extended Snow Route Parking Ban is an extension of the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban, which is currently in effect daily from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. until February 28, 2022.

Extended Snow Route Parking Ban in effect starting tonight at midnight

Parking prohibited on snow routes between midnight and 7 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – In response to recent accumulations of snow and to facilitate snow clearing, an Extended Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting tonight at 12 a.m.

The Extended Snow Route Parking Ban extends the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban by two hours, prohibiting parking on snow routes between midnight and 7 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Emerson Avenue and Arden Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires.

Emerson Avenue Fire

At 10:38 p.m. on Sunday, December 26, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a one-storey bungalow in the 400 block of Emerson Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered very light smoke and stains of smoke inside the home. They opened up a portion of the structure to find a fire in a building cavity. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 11:08 p.m.

Crews prepared to deal with forecasted snowfall

Winnipeg, MB – City crews are ready to serve and prepared to respond to the forecasted snowfall.

Accumulations of snow will be monitored and further decisions will be made as the weather system passes through the city. Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near heavy equipment.

City of Winnipeg suspending various in-home inspections until further notice

Winnipeg, MB – Due to the rising number of positive COVID-19 cases in the community, the City of Winnipeg is suspending in-home, non-emergency inspections, effective today, until further notice.

Those who have scheduled inspections or appointments will be contacted in the coming days, and presented with alternative means to conduct their inspection, if possible. For individuals who prefer an in-person inspection, appointments will be rescheduled to a later date.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Young Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:08 a.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey apartment building in the 100 block of Young Street.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke in the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 9:39 a.m.

Occupants of the building were temporarily evacuated and sheltered aboard a Winnipeg Transit bus. No injuries were reported.
