Crews prepared to deal with forecasted snowfall

Winnipeg, MB – City crews are ready to serve and prepared to respond to the forecasted snowfall.

Crews are monitoring road conditions and stand ready to apply sand and salt to improve traction on roadways throughout the city as required. Accumulations of snow will be monitored and further decisions will be made as the weather system passes through the city. Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near heavy equipment.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on St. John’s Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:19 a.m. on Monday January 17, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in an apartment building in the 200 block of St. John’s Avenue.

When WFPS crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke in the building. An offensive fire attack was initiated and the fire was declared under control at 1:08 a.m.

Occupants of the building were temporarily evacuated and provided shelter aboard a Winnipeg Transit bus. Most were able to return to their suites once crews completed their work on scene.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Redwood Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:39 a.m. on Sunday January 16, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a garage fire in the 900 block of Redwood Avenue.

When WFPS crews arrived on scene, they found the garage fully engulfed in flames. A fire attack was initiated and the fire was declared under control at 9:18 a.m.

One individual was located deceased in the structure.

The fire remains under investigation.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Rosseau Avenue West

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:24 a.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in an apartment building in the 100 block of Rosseau Avenue West.

When WFPS crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 1:42 a.m. The fire was contained to the suite of origin.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Maryland Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:23 a.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey multi-family residential structure in the 400 block of Maryland Street.

Once on-scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a suite in the structure. Crews entered the building to fight the fire, with exterior support from an aerial ladder and water streams. The fire was declared under control at 12:18 p.m., though crews were on-scene for an extended period of time addressing hot spots.

City of Winnipeg launches official election website

Election Day is Wednesday, October 26, 2022

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has unveiled the official website for the 2022 City of Winnipeg Municipal and School Boards Election.

Eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots for the offices of Mayor, Councillor, and School Trustee when they head to the polls on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Mountain Avenue and Kelvin Boulevard

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires.

Mountain Avenue Fire

At 11:42 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue.

When WFPS crews arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke and fire coming from a suite in the building. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:05 a.m.

City releases Financial Status and Forecast Report to November 30, 2021

City now projecting an over-expenditure in snow removal and ice control operations for the year with final costs currently being compiled

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s financial status and forecast report to November 30, 2021 discloses a projected deficit in the tax-supported operating budget (General Revenue Fund) of $17.9 million and an additional shortfall of $3.5 million in Transit. This financial status and forecast report will be presented at the meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance on January 18, 2022.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Mountain Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:21 p.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue.

Once on-scene, crews encountered white smoke coming from a suite. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 10:50 p.m.

No occupants were in the suite at the time of the fire. Crews evacuated residents of other suites as a precaution. No injuries were reported.
