Upcoming temporary road closures

Winnipeg, MB – There are several temporary road closures taking effect in the coming days:

Selkirk Avenue

Selkirk Avenue, from Andrews Street to Salter Street, will be closed on Saturday, June 25 at 12:01 a.m. until Sunday, June 26 at 11:59 p.m. for the sākihiwē festival.

Ellice Avenue

Ellice Avenue, from Sherbrook Street to Langside Street, will be closed on Saturday, June 25 at 5 a.m. until Sunday, June 26 at 8 p.m., for the Ellice Street Festival.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Ross Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:33 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey commercial building currently under renovation in the 400 block of Ross Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they found a smoke coming from the structure. They launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 2:06 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

City accepting applications for Community Safety and Crime Prevention Program funding

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is now accepting applications for the fourth Community Safety and Crime Prevention Program funding period.

The Community Safety and Crime Prevention Program was established to provide funding to support community-level activities that strengthen local crime prevention and community safety efforts, promote the exchange of information between community residents, and help build closer relationships between communities and the Winnipeg Police Service.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Manitoba Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:38 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey duplex in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they found a smoke coming from the structure. They launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 1:31 a.m. With hot and humid conditions, crews were rotated in and out of operations as required to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Motorists can expect traffic impacts this Sunday for the 2022 Manitoba Marathon

Winnipeg, MB – The following closures will be in place on Sunday, June 19 from 2 a.m. until 3 p.m. for the Manitoba Marathon.

  • Chancellor Matheson Road, from Research Way to University Crescent
  • University Crescent, from Chancellor Matheson Road to Pembina Highway
  • Off-ramp from southbound Pembina Highway to eastbound Jubilee Avenue

Winnipeg celebrates Year of the Garden with launch of self-guided floral garden tour map

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg’s Year of the Garden celebration has officially kicked off with the launch of a self-guided garden tour map featuring some of the City of Winnipeg’s best and brightest floral gardens.

“Gardening is a big part of many Winnipeggers lives and the City of Winnipeg’s collection of gardens is a direct reflection of that,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “With 2022 as the Year of the Garden, I’d like to invite residents to get out and take a self-guided tour of our beautiful gardens across Winnipeg.”

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Poplar Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:09 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire at a combination one storey, two-storey commercial complex in the 300 block of Poplar Avenue.

Once on-scene, crews found smoke throughout the interior and located the source of the fire in a boiler room. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 6:39 p.m.

Occupants of the complex self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Rannock Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:09 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire at a two-storey house in the 5900 block of Rannock Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they found smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 3:07 p.m.

The two occupants who were in the house self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. On-scene paramedics transported them both to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Section of King Street to close starting Friday

Winnipeg, MB – King Street, from Notre Dame Avenue to McDermot Avenue, will be closed on Friday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. until Saturday, June 18 at 7 a.m. for film production. The east sidewalk will remain open.
