Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Chesterfield Avenue and Capulet Crescent

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to multiple fires on Thursday night.

Chesterfield Avenue Fire

At 6:55 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022, WFPS responded to reports of a fire called in by the Winnipeg Police Service in a thirteen-storey apartment complex in the 0-100 block of Chesterfield Avenue.

Once on-scene, WFPS crews quickly ensured complete extinguishment of a fire in the room of a suite, in cooperation with other first responders.

Temporary road closures on Empress Street East begin Thursday

Winnipeg, MB – The following road closures will take effect on Empress Street East from Thursday, July 21 at 9 a.m. until Monday, July 25 at 3 p.m. for road construction.

  • Northbound Empress Street East, from St. John Ambulance Way to Eastway, including the overpass crossing Portage Avenue. Please note the active transportation path and southbound lane on Empress Street East crossing over Portage Avenue will not be affected by the closure.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Pritchard Avenue and Redwood Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to multiple fires from Tuesday night to early Wednesday morning.

Pritchard Avenue Fire

At 7:24 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 600 block of Pritchard Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they located a fire in an outbuilding attached to the house. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 8:12 p.m.

Treaty One First Nations to be Presented With Keys to the City

Winnipeg, MB – As part of today’s historic public signing ceremony for Naawi-Oodena, which will create the largest Urban Indigenous Economic Zone in Canadian history, Mayor Brian Bowman will present seven Keys to the City to the Chiefs on behalf of the seven First Nations who are signatories to the first of the numbered Treaties originally signed on August 3, 1871.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Sargent Avenue and Magnus Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to multiple fires from late Monday night to early Tuesday afternoon.

Sargent Avenue Fire

At 10:53 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 700 block of Sargent Avenue.

Once on-scene crews found light grey smoke coming from a suite in the building. Crews launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 11:17 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Lombard Avenue East and Haggart Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires this evening and multiple fire alarms activated by the extreme heat conditions.

Lombard Avenue Fire

At 7:30 p.m. on July 17, 2022, the WFPS responded to a monitored alarm in the Fairmont Hotel on Portage Avenue East. Due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with a large structure, a second alarm was called which increased the number of apparatus on scene.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Furby Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:45 a.m. on July 17, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Furby Street.

When crews arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 4:23 a.m.

All occupants of the building safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Alexander Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:33 a.m. on July 16, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 1900 block of Alexander Avenue.

When crews arrived, they found the fire had spread to a neighbouring vacant house. Both houses were fully engulfed in flames. Crews initially launched a defensive attack, but were able to transition to an offensive attack once fire conditions improved. The fire was declared under control by 2:45 a.m.
