Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to three structure fires

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to three fires since last evening.

Alfred Avenue

At 9:05 p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue.

At the scene, crews saw smoke and flames coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside until it was safe to enter the house to attack from the inside. The fire was under control at 9:45 p.m.

Section of Bison Drive to temporarily close

Winnipeg, MB – Bison Drive, from Pembina Highway to Markham Road, will be closed on Friday, October 14 at 6 p.m. until Sunday, October 16 at 11 p.m., for a railway crossing repair.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a house fire on Parkview Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:48 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a home in the 300 block of Parkview Street.

At the scene, firefighters saw flames and smoke coming from the building. Firefighters attacked the fire from the inside, and it was under control at 3:18 p.m.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no damage estimates are available.

Temporary patio program registration now open for winter operation

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has opened registration of the temporary patio program to eligible businesses planning to register for winter operation. Temporary patio registrations submitted for the summer season will extend until October 31, 2022. New winter patio registrations will be accepted as of October 12, 2022 and will be in effect from November 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023.

Update #3 on collective bargaining with CUPE Local 500

Winnipeg, MB – Following discussions today, the City of Winnipeg and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 500 (CUPE) have reached a tentative agreement, which avoids a potential labour disruption.

The City will not be releasing details of the settlement at this time, which is still subject to a ratification vote by CUPE’s membership. If approved by CUPE’s membership, the settlement will be presented to Council for its consideration.

Update #2 on collective bargaining with CUPE Local 500

Winnipeg, MB – Last night, the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 500 (CUPE) issued a statement advising that a tentative agreement had been reached between the union and the City of Winnipeg, and that the union was pausing potential strike action.

While the City is encouraged to learn that the union was pausing potential strike action, it’s important to note that negotiations are ongoing, and that both parties have not reached a tentative agreement at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to five residential fires

Winnipeg, MB – Since the evening of Sunday, October 9, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to five residential fires.

Alfred Avenue

At 5:46 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey home in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue.

At the scene, firefighters saw heavy black smoke and flames coming from the house. Crews attacked the fire from the inside. It was under control at 5:54 p.m.

Firefighters searched the building to ensure no one was inside. No one was injured.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire in an apartment and a chimney fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:43 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a six-suite apartment building in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue.

When crews got to the scene, they saw heavy black smoke coming from the building. Firefighters attacked the fire from inside. It was under control at 9:03 p.m.

Everyone who was inside got out safely and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to four fires

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) recently responded to four fires.

Selkirk Avenue

At 1:11 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2022, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey building in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue.

At the scene, crews saw smoke and flames coming from the building. Firefighters attacked the fire from inside of the building, and it was under control at 1:26 p.m.

Crews searched the building to confirm no one was inside at the time of the fire. There were no injuries.
