Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Logan Avenue and Barnes Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires.

Logan Avenue Fire

At 8:06 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, the WFPS responded to a monitored fire alarm in a single-storey industrial structure in the 1900 block of Logan Avenue.

When crews arrived at the scene, there was significant smoke in the structure which had triggered the sprinkler system. Crews were alerted to a machinery fire and an injured individual who had been helped outside by other building occupants.

Crews tended to the patient, while additional crews simultaneously launched an offensive fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 8:41 p.m. On-scene paramedics transported the injured individual to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Barnes Street Fire

At 1:43 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a four-storey residential building under construction in the 0 to 100 block of Barnes Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 2:09 a.m.

A search of the building was completed and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation at this time. Damage estimates are not available.
