Assiniboine Riverwalk temporarily closed due to recent rainfall

Winnipeg, MB - The Assiniboine Riverwalk has been temporarily closed due to recent heavy rains which caused the Assiniboine River to rise and flood the walkway.

Temporary barricades have been put in place while the Riverwalk is closed until the river recedes and the walkway can be reopened.

Citizens invited to a series of pop-up engagement events about beekeeping in the city

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is looking at expanding opportunities for urban beekeeping in the city and is inviting citizens to provide feedback in a series of pop-up engagement events on the topic.

Beekeeping is currently permitted in downtown Winnipeg and is also allowed in agricultural and institutionally zoned areas through conditional use and a public hearing, but is prohibited in residential, commercial and industrial areas.

At the pop-up engagement events, there will be an opportunity to review and provide feedback on possible options.

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg invites members of the public and interested organizations to fill out an accessibility survey.

The City recognizes that barriers to accessibility may create difficulties for some people to fully participate in activities of daily living. We want to learn about what the community considers policy and procedural barriers to accessing City facilities and services.

Insect Control Update 4

Winnipeg, MB - Today the City of Winnipeg's Insect Control Branch provided an update on the mosquito larviciding program and forest tent caterpillar program.

The Insect Control Branch continues an aggressive larviciding program and is reminding Winnipeggers to join the Agents of S.W.A.T. (Standing Water Action Team) to do their part and empty any standing water on their property.

Westbound Concordia Avenue between Molson Street and Gateway Road will be completely closed to traffic beginning Saturday, June 4

Winnipeg, MB - Westbound Concordia Avenue between Molson Street and Gateway Road will be completely closed to traffic beginning Saturday, June 4 at 4:00 p.m. for a road reconstruction project. While repairs are underway, the eastbound direction on Concordia Avenue will remain open from Gateway Road to provide access to Concordia Hospital and Kildonan East Collegiate. Westbound hospital access from Molson Street onto Concordia Avenue will remain open. It is anticipated that Concordia Avenue will be reopened to two-way traffic by Monday, July 4, 2016.

Edmonton Street temporarily closed between Portage Avenue and Graham Avenue

Winnipeg, MB - This Friday, June 3, Edmonton Street between Portage Avenue and Graham Avenue will be temporarily closed from noon until 3:30 p.m., to accommodate the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Sharing Dance Day.

Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during this time.

Residential fire on Manitoba Avenue

Winnipeg, MB - At 4:30 a.m. this morning, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to a report of a fire in the upper level of a wood framed two storey, four-unit residential complex in the four hundred block of Manitoba Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, firefighters determined the fire was in a second floor suite and proceeded to evacuate tenants from the block’s three other suites.
