Mayor's Office to be temporarily relocated to Administration Building to accommodate Council Building redevelopment

Winnipeg, MB. -â�Today, the Mayor and his staff will begin moving to their temporary location in the Administration Building located at 510 Main Street to accommodate the redevelopment of the Council Building. The Administration Building is located directly across the Courtyard from the Council Building.

This long overdue redevelopment work is required to maintain the City Council Building and to meet current safety system and building code requirements.

Louise Bridge to be completely closed for maintenance from July 16 to 24

Winnipeg, MB - The Louise Bridge will be completely closed to traffic from Nairn Avenue to Sutherland Avenue, starting at 6:00 a.m. Saturday, July 16 and reopening at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 24. The bridge closure is for general bridge maintenance including concrete deck repairs, expansion joint repairs and asphalt resurfacing.

Pedestrian access to the west sidewalk will be maintained.

Access to the Buchanan Marine Boat Launch will also be maintained.

Sod-turning celebrates start of construction on the new Windsor Park Library

Winnipeg, MB - Representatives from the City of Winnipeg and David Penner Architects/Helio Rodrigues h5 Architecture were on hand today for the sod-turning to officially kick off construction on the new Windsor Park Library.

“It’s great to see construction beginning on a new, modernized Windsor Park Library,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “I’m proud to play a role in revitalizing our communities through projects like this which will be utilized by the community for many years to come.”

Millennium Library hosts Anne Frank exhibit

Winnipeg, MB - Today, Millennium Library welcomed the acclaimed international travelling exhibit Anne Frank - A History for Today to Winnipeg, the first time the exhibit has travelled to Manitoba. Mayor Brian Bowman visited the exhibit from Anne Frank House (Amsterdam, the Netherlands) which has travelled to more than 60 countries and tells the story of Anne Frank against the background of the Holocaust and the Second World War.

City of Winnipeg invites citizens to come in and cool off during extreme heat

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg invites citizens to come in and cool off in civic facilities during regular operating hours this weekend and into next week, as extreme temperatures are forecasted.

City facilities that are normally open on weekdays and weekends are available to act as 'cooling areas' where the public may come in for relief from the heat, read a book or magazine, and have access to drinking water.

City pools and spray pads are also great ways to cool down.

Railway crossing closure on Elizabeth Road between Arundel Road and Rue Maginot

Winnipeg, MB - Elizabeth Road between Arundel Road and Rue Maginot will be completely closed to eastbound and westbound traffic at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 12, 2016 for a CP railway crossing reconstruction project. Elizabeth Road will reopen at 9:00 p.m. on July 13, 2016.

Motorists are advised to allow for additional travel time or to use alternate routes in this area to reach their destinations.

Winnipeggers invited to 10th annual Monarch Butterfly Festival on July 17 at the Living Prairie Museum

Portage and Main stairway closed for repairs from July 11 to August 5

Winnipeg, MB - The public is advised that the stairway that leads from the exterior street level courtyard in front of 201 Portage Avenue into the concourse will be closed from Monday, July 11 to Friday, August 5 to accommodate water infiltration repairs.

Access to the concourse may be gained through entry into 201 Portage Avenue and taking the escalators in the front lobby down to the concourse area.

Alternatively, Portage Avenue may be crossed at the pedestrian crosswalk 200 feet west of 201 Portage Avenue, at Notre Dame Avenue.
