Declared Snow Route Parking Ban in effect starting tomorrow night at midnight

Winnipeg, MB - To facilitate snow clearing and clean-up of curb lanes on major routes, a Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting tomorrow night at midnight (Sunday, January 15 at 12:00 a.m.).

The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban extends the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban by two hours, prohibiting parking on any designated snow route between midnight and 7:00 a.m.

Motorists are reminded to drive to winter road conditions at all times and to use extreme caution when driving near any plowing or sanding equipment.

Bulletin #2 - City of Winnipeg weather related service updates

Winnipeg, MB - Due to blowing snow and extremely cold temperatures, some City of Winnipeg departments are experiencing service delays and interruptions.

The Brady Road Resource Management Facility has reopened to commercial traffic only. Garbage collection has resumed but is expected to be slower than normal (more information below).

Winnipeg Transit is experiencing minor delays and we recommend that Transit users allow for extra travel time (more information below). Handi-Transit service has returned to normal.

Garbage collection is temporarily suspended as full garbage trucks are unable to safely offload at the Brady Road Resource Management Facility in reduced visibility (more information below).

City releases Financial Update Forecast to November 30, 2016

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg's Financial Status Update Report to November 30, 2016, will be presented at the meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance on January 16, 2017. The Report is projecting a deficit of $6.2 million for the 2016 fiscal year (ending December 31, 2016) as a result of the increased amount of snow removal and ice control required to deal with the above average snow accumulation in December.

Crews continue to sand and spot plow areas prone to drifting

Winnipeg, MB - Due to light snow combined with high winds, City crews are monitoring the road network and will be spot plowing to address areas prone to drifting. Sand will continue to be applied to address slippery conditions. As winds diminish, a full city-wide sidewalk clearing operation will be required.

Motorists are urged to drive to road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any snow clearing equipment.

Temporary change of access to Little Mountain Park

Winnipeg, MB - From January 11 to February 15, access to Little Mountain Park will only be available through the Klimpke Road parking lot due to a Rural Municipality of Rosser water main project on Farmer Road and Mountain View Road.

Statement From Mayor Brian Bowman on Act of Anti-Semitism in Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB - Mayor Bowman issued the following statement today regarding a recent act of anti-Semitism in Winnipeg:

“Recently, a family in Winnipeg was the target of an anti-Semitic act at their home.

I am profoundly disturbed and disgusted by this reprehensible display of hate.

Winnipeg is a community that embraces diversity and inclusivity. This incident goes against the values we hold dear, as a community. Winnipeggers stand together and strongly oppose any act of hate, such as this.

Snowshoe Sundays start January 8 at Living Prairie Museum

Winnipeg, MB - Starting this Sunday, January 8 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., the Living Prairie Museum will be open for Snowshoe Sundays on the first and last Sunday of each month until March, weather permitting.

These activity days will be fun for the whole family with free snowshoe rentals. No experience is necessary. Snowshoes are loaned out on a first come, first served basis.
