Warm up at City of Winnipeg facilities

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is advising citizens to come in and warm up in civic facilities during regular operating hours as extremely cold temperatures continue.

City facilities that normally are open on weekdays and weekends are available as ‘warming areas’ where the public may come in for relief from the cold.

City facilities that can provide a comfortable place to warm-up include City Hall (open weekdays), Winnipeg Public Libraries, swimming pools, and Leisure Centres.

Declared Snow Route Parking Ban in effect starting tonight at midnight

Winnipeg, MB - In order to facilitate a major clearing operation on main routes, bus routes and collector streets, a Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting tonight at midnight (Wednesday, January 4 at 12:00 a.m.).

The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban extends the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban by two hours, prohibiting parking on any designated snow route between midnight and 7:00 a.m.

Truck plowing operation in progress

Winnipeg, MB - Due to the overnight snowfall, a truck plowing operation on main routes, bus routes and collector streets is currently in progress. Sidewalk plowing is also underway and a major load and haul operation is continuing. Sanding of all streets will continue to improve traction.

The City’s Public Works Department is monitoring road and sidewalk conditions and further decisions will be made throughout the day.

Residential Parking Ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB - The Residential Parking Ban has been lifted. The City of Winnipeg wishes to thank Winnipeggers for their cooperation during the Residential Street Parking Ban.

The Annual Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect daily from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. until March 1.

Bulletin #7: City of Winnipeg weather related service updates

Winnipeg, MB - As the City of Winnipeg continues to cleanup following the Sunday and Monday's major winter weather event, some city services continue to experience delays and interruptions.

Garbage and Recycling collection is running a day behind schedule in some areas. However, the majority of the areas are running on schedule. (See below for more information.)

City ready for approaching storm

Winnipeg, MB - The Public Works Department is closely monitoring the weather system approaching the city and will adjust snow clearing operations as needed based on road conditions and accumulation of snow. Sanding trucks will be deployed to improve traction on the roadway and, if required, plowing will initially focus on main routes.

Reminder: Transit fare increases in effect January 1, 2017

Winnipeg, MB - The public is reminded that new Transit and Handi-Transit fares take effect on January 1, 2017. Transit fares are increased annually based on inflation rates to fund operations. Inflationary Transit fare increases are implemented under the authority delegated through the Fees and Charges By-Law.

Full and Handi-Transit cash fares will be $2.70. Reduced and Senior cash fares will be $2.20. New rates for tickets and passes will also be in effect January 1, 2017.
