Assiniboine river walk from the Osborne Bridge to the Main Street Bridge temporarily closed

Winnipeg, MB - With the normal spring rise in the river level, the Assiniboine River walk from the Osborne Bridge to the Main Street Bridge is temporarily closed to pedestrian traffic. Barricades have been installed indicating the walkway is closed.

Light standards along the Assiniboine River walk have also been temporarily removed in order to prevent potential damage from river ice during the spring break-up. The public is reminded there will be no lighting along the walk during evening/night.

Public invited to provide input for City Athletic Field Review

Winnipeg, MB - The City is currently reviewing how athletic fields are allocated and maintained and is looking for Winnipeggers' feedback. The aim of the City's Athletic Field Review is to ensure City athletic fields are well maintained, fairly shared and used to the fullest extent possible and public input is an important part of the process.

City of Winnipeg: Flood Bulletin #1

Winnipeg, MB - In a news release yesterday, the Province of Manitoba advised that there is a risk of major spring flooding on the Red River main stem. The ice-induced peak at James Avenue is estimated to be between 5.6 metres (18.5 feet) to 6.7 metres (22.0 feet) and is expected to occur later this spring.

As of 10:28 a.m., on Tuesday, February 28, the river level at James Avenue was 2.4 metres (7.77 feet).

Annual Snow Route Parking Ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg's Annual Snow Route Parking Ban has been lifted effective 7:01 a.m., today, Tuesday, February 28, 2017.

The ban prohibited parking between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on all designated snow routes.

No other winter parking bans are in place at this time.

Time to Build Winnipeg for the Future is Now: Mayor Bowman

Winnipeg, MB. - In his third State of the City address, Mayor Brian Bowman emphasized the importance of building Winnipeg for the future, preparing the City for strong population and economic growth, and announced new steps to reduce red tape including a new partnership with the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce to help streamline and improve the City’s permitting process.

Public invited to participate in the Transcona Cemetery Improvement Strategy

Winnipeg, MB. - Winnipeggers are invited to participate in developing an improvement strategy for the Transcona Cemetery.

The City of Winnipeg is currently looking at developing a strategy for improving the Transcona Cemetery in consultation with the public and stakeholders to ensure the cemetery continues to meet the needs of the community. A draft plan will be developed for improvements to the grounds, and will include a plan to return the chapel to use.
