Public invited to Prairie Planting Workshops in April and May

Winnipeg, MB - The Living Prairie Museum is inviting the public to take part in Prairie Planting Workshops to learn how to grow native plants at home. This April and May, instructor John Morgan of Prairie Habitats Inc. will help workshop participants increase biodiversity in their own backyard.

City accepting applications for Winnipeg Food Council membership

Winnipeg, MB - Residents are invited to submit their applications for membership in the newly-minted Winnipeg Food Council.

“The issues of local food production and distribution are important for our health,” said Councillor Brian Mayes, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Water and Waste, Riverbank Management and the Environment. “I look forward to receiving recommendations from this new committee.”

Winnipeg, MB - Today, the City of Winnipeg provided an update on its flood preparations, based on the forecast from the Province of Manitoba, operation of the Red River Floodway and ice conditions.

The operation of the floodway, which began Friday, continues. The City continues to respond using Thursday’s forecasted peaks (between 18.6 to 20.8 feet James).

Public invited to open house about the Grant Park Recreation Campus Plan & Feasibility Study

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeggers are invited to attend a public open house about the Grant Park campus feasibility study.

The City of Winnipeg is seeking community input on improving recreation and leisure options on land located west of Grant Park Shopping Centre as part of a planning process. The current site, bounded by Grant Avenue to the north and Taylor Avenue to the south, is home to several well-used facilities including the Pan Am Pool, the Charles A. Barbour Indoor Arena, and outdoor soccer fields.

Southbound Kenaston Boulevard onto eastbound Bishop Grandin Boulevard (Kenaston Overpass) will be temporarily closed

Winnipeg, MB - The southbound direction of Kenaston Boulevard onto eastbound Bishop Grandin Boulevard, including the Kenaston Overpass, will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic on Sunday, April 2 from 6:00 a.m. until noon for maintenance work.

Pedestrian sidewalk access will be maintained while work is underway. Motorists should allow additional time to get to their destinations and use alternate routes.

City of Winnipeg: Flood Bulletin #4

Winnipeg, MB - Today, the City provided an update on its flood preparations, including revised numbers of properties that require sandbag dikes.

The operation of the Red River Floodway, which began today, has reduced the need for sandbag dikes in Winnipeg, but, as a cautionary measure, the City will continue to plan using Thursday’s forecasted peaks (between 18.6 to 20.8 feet James).

City flood planning and operations will be modified as necessary, as the benefits of floodway operations begin to take effect.

Submit your edible creations for Books2Eat at Millennium Library

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeggers are invited to attend Books2Eat and take part in a creative culinary competition on April 8, 2017 at the Millennium Library.

Books2Eat is an annual event that combines the creative talents of book lovers and chefs. To mark the event, Millennium Library is offering free food-inspired activities open to the public from noon to 3:30 p.m., including a workshop on 3D printing, making music with fruit, a scavenger hunt, and a ‘tasty’ story time.

City of Winnipeg: Flood Bulletin #3

Winnipeg, MB - Based on ice conditions along the Red River, river levels may peak this weekend. Following analysis of the March 24, 2017, Provincial Flood Outlook, observed river flows and current ice conditions, City of Winnipeg engineers have updated the list of Winnipeg properties at risk which may potentially require sandbag dikes.

Seven Oaks Pool temporarily closed for renovations beginning April 2, 2017

Winnipeg, MB - The Seven Oaks Pool will be closed to the public for facility upgrades beginning on April 2, 2017. Upgrades are expected to be complete in mid-2018.

Facility renovations include new family change rooms, universally-accessible washrooms, an enhanced public lobby, a new meeting space, a small teach pool, and a new indoor spray pad - the first of its kind in Winnipeg.
