Public invited to provide feedback on pedestrian and cycling project connecting Wolseley and West Alexander

Winnipeg, MB - Do you walk or bike in the Wolseley and West End neighbourhoods? The City wants to hear from you to help shape plans for a Walk Bike project connecting the Wolseley and West Alexander neighbourhoods.

This project is looking at options to encourage walking and cycling through the creation of a neighbourhood greenway along Ruby Street and Banning Street providing an important north-south connection between Palmerston Avenue and Notre Dame Avenue and beyond.

Transit Spring Schedule in effect Sunday, April 9

Winnipeg, MB - Beginning Sunday, April 9, 2017, Winnipeg Transit's Spring Schedule will be in effect.

Please note: To accommodate the revised academic calendar, University of Manitoba Winter Service schedules will remain in effect until April 21 on the following routes:

36 Northwest Super Express
75 Crosstown East
78 Crosstown West
161 University Super Express

Some trips to/from the University of Manitoba may not be visible on transit’s website or other TransitTools.

Update on start of seasonal yard waste collection

Winnipeg, MB - Due to the forecasted warm weather, the curbside yard waste collection program will begin a week earlier than initially announced.

This year's curbside yard waste collection program will begin the week of April 17 for homes in yard waste collection area "A" and the week of April 24 for homes in yard waste collection area "B”. Residents can also drop off yard waste for free at the Brady or Pacific 4R Winnipeg Depots.

Upcoming temporary closure of Sherbrook Street between Notre Dame Avenue and McDermot Avenue

Winnipeg, MB - Sherbrook Street from Notre Dame Avenue to McDermot Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic this Friday, April 7, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. until Monday, April 10 at 6:00 a.m. for the disassembly of a large crane used for building construction. Pedestrian access on Sherbrook Street will be maintained on the east sidewalk. The Manitoba Clinic may be accessed via Olivia Street off of McDermot Avenue.

Arlington Bridge to be temporarily closed April 8 to 12

Winnipeg, MB - The Arlington Bridge will be temporarily closed from Logan Avenue to Dufferin Avenue, starting at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8 until Wednesday, April 12 at 6:00 a.m. to facilitate bridge inspection and regular maintenance.

Pedestrian sidewalk access will be permitted while this work is underway.

Motorists should use alternate routes such as the McPhillips Street Underpass or Slaw Rebchuck Bridge.

Seasonal curbside yard waste collection to begin April 24

Winnipeg, MB - This year's curbside yard waste collection program will begin the week of April 24 for homes in yard waste collection area "B" and the week of May 1 for homes in yard waste collection area "A”. Residents can also drop off yard waste for free at the Brady or Pacific 4R Winnipeg Depots.

Yard waste is collected at the curb once every two weeks, on the same collection day as recycling and garbage, and will continue until November.

City launches 2018 Budget consultation

Winnipeg, MB - Today, the City of Winnipeg launched its 2018 budget consultation, Let’s Build the Budget Together, to provide input for the 2018 budget development process. Winnipeggers can provide feedback until April 30, 2017.

City of Winnipeg starts development of a Biosolids Land Application Program

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is developing a Biosolids Land Application program and is ready to engage with regional, municipal and local stakeholders. The Biosolids Land Application program is being developed in response to changes in provincial legislation that now requires wastewater biosolids to be beneficially reused.

Winnipeg Parking Authority campaign encourages drivers to "Be Aware. Park with Care" around schools, fire lanes and designated spaces

Winnipeg, MB - Today, the Winnipeg Parking Authority (WPA) launched its "Be Aware. Park with Care" campaign which encourages drivers to follow parking laws when stopping or parking around schools, fire lanes and designated parking spaces. The campaign aims to educate drivers about the parking rules in these high-offense areas prior to the WPA beginning to mail out parking tickets on May 1, 2017.
