Tree Pest Caterpillar Control Program has concluded

Winnipeg, MB - Today, Thursday, June 22, 2017, the City of Winnipeg's Insect Control Branch announced the conclusion of the forest tent caterpillar control program.

In response to the emergence of forest tent caterpillar, elm spanworm and cankerworms, the Insect Control Branch undertook a control program focusing on streets that were at high risk of significant leaf damage.

Winnipeg names its first Food Policy Council

Winnipeg, MB - Today, Winnipeg City Council voted to appoint the members of the first Winnipeg Food Council.

“This is a great opportunity to build on existing strengths, passions and expertise related to food issues in Winnipeg,” said Brian Mayes, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Water and Waste, Riverbank Management and the Environment. “I look forward to working with members of the Food Council to develop our Agriculture and Food Strategy.”

City unveils improvements to the courts at La Fleche Park

Winnipeg, MB - Over the last year, improvements have been made to the courts at La Fleche Park located at 17 Sinnott Street in Charleswood including a new basketball court, three new pickleball courts and resurfaced tennis courts for park users to enjoy.

“The Charleswood community is sure to love the new amenities at La Fleche Park,” said Charleswood Tuxedo Whyte Ridge Councillor Marty Morantz. “I’m pleased we were able to redevelop this space into a useable, attractive and fun place that will help people of all ages to get active.”

Recycling and garbage collection delays continue

Winnipeg, MB - The City is advising residents that recycling, garbage and yard waste collection service is still up to one day behind schedule in some neighbourhoods to due to issues with the contractor’s fleet.

The City would like to thank residents for their patience as we work with the contractor to correct the delays.
