Tree Pest Caterpillar Control Program has concluded

Released: June 22, 2017 at 1:37 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Today, Thursday, June 22, 2017, the City of Winnipeg's Insect Control Branch announced the conclusion of the forest tent caterpillar control program.

In response to the emergence of forest tent caterpillar, elm spanworm and cankerworms, the Insect Control Branch undertook a control program focusing on streets that were at high risk of significant leaf damage.

The caterpillars have stopped feeding, thereby rendering any further spraying ineffective. Citizens will notice the caterpillars crawling around looking for places to spin a cocoon to prepare for their next part of their life cycle.
