East sidewalk of Arlington Bridge temporarily closed for repairs

Winnipeg, MB - The east sidewalk of the Arlington Bridge will be temporarily closed for localized repairs. It is anticipated that the east sidewalk will remain closed for about two weeks until the work is completed.

Pedestrian access will be maintained on the west sidewalk while this work is underway.

Bike Week Winnipeg returns for another year of city-wide festivities

Winnipeg, MB - For the fourth year in a row, bicycle riders in Winnipeg can enjoy new and returning events happening around the city for Bike Week Winnipeg. Bike Week Winnipeg presents seven days of bike programming, including city-wide pit stops to service a predicted 4,000 riders participating in the 10th annual Bike to Work Day on Friday, June 23.

River Park South area trail named “Sentier de la Giclais Pathway” to honour French history in St. Vital

Winnipeg, MB - At an event this morning, City Councillor Brian Mayes officially named a St. Vital-area trail the “Sentier de la Giclais Pathway” to honour an important part of Franco-Manitoban history in the St. Vital area.

“The trail we are opening today is small, but the symbolism is large,” said Brian Mayes, City Councillor for St. Vital. “We are returning to Winnipeg’s map a French name that was removed 59 years ago, to show the importance of the French language and Franco-Manitoban culture in St. Vital and throughout the City of Winnipeg.”

Public invited to review redevelopment plan for one of Winnipeg's oldest parks

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeggers are invited to review the St. John’s Park redevelopment master plan at a public open house on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

In May 2017, over one hundred Winnipeggers filled out an online survey on how they use the park and what improvements they feel needed to be made to the space to improve their experience. The information gathered was worked into concept designs for the park and will be presented at the public open house.

City of Winnipeg's voluntary lobbyist registry now operational

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg's first voluntary lobbyist registry is now operational and ready to receive lobbyist registrations in order to help provide greater openness and transparency.

The registry was created to obtain information on any meetings occurring when an individual representing a financial or business interest, or the financial interest of a not-for-profit with paid staff, communicates with a Member of Council or City staff to try and influence a decision on governmental matters that are outside of the standard process.

Taxpayers Should Not Be On The Hook For Alcohol Purchases: Bowman

Winnipeg, MB - A motion proposing to make the purchase of all alcohol an ineligible Councillor expense will be tabled at today's Executive Policy Committee meeting Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

“As elected members, we are stewards of taxpayer money and we need to ensure the expenses we incur are reasonable and reflect what the public expects of their elected representatives,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “I believe that all alcohol, regardless of the reason it’s purchased, should not be an expense borne by taxpayers.”

Construction season ramps up with launch of City's new online road construction map

Winnipeg, MB - As construction season ramps up, the City has a new tool to help Winnipeggers get information about construction projects happening this year. Today, the City launched a new online road construction map that displays the Public Works Department’s 2017 road construction projects in an easy-to-access format. Projects shown on the map include more than 150 road construction projects scheduled for this year, as well as pedestrian and cycling projects, streets maintenance projects and traffic signal upgrades.
